Hapé/Rapé
What is Hapé?
Rapé (pronounced "Hapé" in Portuguese) is a sacred shamanic medicine that has been used for thousands of years by Indigenous tribes throughout the Amazon and other regions of South America. Traditionally, it is prepared as a finely ground snuff made from medicinal plants, sacred tree ashes, and Nicotiana Rustica, a powerful ceremonial tobacco.
Unlike the tobacco found in commercial cigarettes, Nicotiana Rustica is used intentionally within ceremonial traditions and carries a very different purpose. It is regarded as a sacred plant ally rather than a recreational product.
Each blend is unique, with different tribes incorporating specific ashes, herbs, and plants that have been passed down through generations. Every recipe reflects the traditions, wisdom, and lineage of the community that created it.
Honoring the Tradition
Hapé is more than a wellness product or trend. It is a sacred Indigenous medicine with deep cultural roots.
I believe it is important to approach this medicine with humility, respect, and gratitude for the communities who have protected these traditions for generations.
The blends I offer are intentionally sourced through trusted relationships that prioritize ethical harvesting, respect for Indigenous lineages, and honoring the origins of this medicine.
What Can Hapé Support?
When received with intention and respect, many people experience Hapé as a deeply grounding and clarifying practice.
While every experience is unique, Hapé is traditionally used to support:
• Grounding and presence
• Mental clarity and focus
• Emotional release
• Energetic cleansing
• Meditation and prayer
• Releasing stagnant energy
• Nervous system regulation
• Greater connection to intention
Rather than creating an altered or euphoric state, many people describe feeling calmer, quieter, and more present afterward.
Experience Timeline
Initial Peak (1–2 minutes)
The strongest physical sensations are typically felt during the first couple of minutes as the body begins its natural clearing process.
Active Phase (10–30 minutes)
The initial intensity gradually settles into a calm, quiet, and meditative state.
Afterglow (2–4 hours)
Many people report feeling mentally clear, emotionally lighter, grounded, and deeply present for several hours afterward.
Is Hapé Psychoactive?
No.
Hapé is not considered a psychedelic or hallucinogenic medicine. It does not create visual hallucinations or altered states of consciousness like psilocybin, LSD, or ayahuasca.
Instead, the experience is often described as physically cleansing, mentally clarifying, emotionally grounding, and deeply meditative.
Every person's experience is different, but most people remain fully aware and present throughout the ceremony.
What Happens During a Session?
Every Hapé session begins with a conversation about your intention.
Before receiving the medicine, we'll take time to slow down, breathe, and create a supportive space for the experience.
Using a traditional pipe called a Tepi, I gently administer the medicine into each nostril while holding space for whatever arises.
Following administration, you'll simply rest.
There is no expectation to talk, process, or perform.
Many people choose to close their eyes, meditate, breathe, or simply observe their experience while allowing the medicine to work.
What Might I Experience?
Some common physical sensations include:
• Watery eyes
• Increased salivation
• Sneezing
• Temporary nasal discomfort
• Emotional release
• Deep breathing
• A feeling of heaviness followed by relaxation
Many people notice a quieter mind, greater mental clarity, and a stronger sense of grounding after the initial intensity passes.
